The Session (Elders):

"Elder" is a common translation of the Greek word presbyter. A more literal translation would be "overseer". The session is the governing board of the local church. It oversees the spiritual and organizational health of the congergation

The Board of Deacons:

"Deacon" is from the Greek word diakonos (literally: "servant"). The root word konos means "to be active". The active work of the board of deacons is first and foremost a ministry of compassion.
