Worship and Hospitality
Worship is the most important thing we do. In worship, we ascribe all praise and honor to God, respond to God’s gracious hospitality, tell again and again the story of salvation, and extend God’s grace to whosoever will—to all peoples. In worship we gather together as one body and say—in many different forms and styles—“We belong to God! God is present in our lives and in the world!”
Worship at First Presbyterian Church Lake Crystal begins with a warm, informal welcome to all those gathered. We are always striving to be a more welcoming church! After sharing a few announcements and the mutual joys and concerns of the community, we spend some quiet time centering ourselves in God and listen for God’s gracious “welcome home” to each of us: “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
First Presbyterian Church was founded by Welsh settlers in the Minnesota Valley. Many of the Welsh churches in the area were originally known as “Welsh Calvinistic Methodist” churches. We still love to sing the great hymns of the faith, especially the Welsh tunes such as Cwm Rhonnda, Llanfair, and others. But we love contemporary music, too, and regularly incorporate new and world music into our worship. Some of these new songs are now part of the new “traditions” in our church—young and old sing them by heart!
